New Horizons Program

The New Horizons Program was founded in order for adults to experience the joy of music. The New Horizons Program primary requirement is that you have a desire to have music in your life. It is a national program, founded by Dr. Roy Ernst, from the Eastman School of Music. Learn more about the national program.

There are three groups under the Holy Names Music Center New Horizons Program:

Key benefits of the program:

  • Taking pride in your accomplishments - maybe you played an instrument as a child; or have always wanted to learn to sing. Now is your chance!
  • Grow musically with other members of your ensemble. Enjoy the friendships that come with involvement in these groups.
  • Work with fantastic, highly talented musicians. This is an incredibile experience for you and the music instructors and coaches as well.
  • No pressure, just come and experience the joy of music.

Playing music is a special joy and it will help you maintain mental and physical health. It is also a way of experiencing life: playing music from the past keeps us in touch with those feelings; daily practice keeps us active in the present; and striving for new goals attaches us to the future.

As a member of the New Horizons Orchestra, you will meet new friends and work with them as a team to learn music for concerts and other performances in the community. New Horizons ensembles typically perform many times each year in venues ranging from formal concerts to shopping malls to parks to retirement and nursing homes.
