Young Voices Sing! with Andrea Dawson.
10-week class begins Thursday April 22 at 5:30 p.m. $90
This class is designed to prepare young voices (ages 8-13) for private voice instruction when they are of age (13 or 14 due to bone/muscle development).
The goal of this class is to instill in the young developing voice a sound vocal production technique while at the same time maintaining and encouraging the vocal freedom inherent to voices of this age.
Our class will cover both physical and vocal warm-ups, vocal conditioning exercises, and basic vocal pedagogy (how the voice works!). We will also sing a variety of repertoire and prepare a short recital to be given on the last day of class.
The focus of this class will be making music, and enjoying doing so, while slowly introducing the concepts of healthy singing – concepts the students will continue to study for many, many years in their future vocal studies.
Above all, we are going to have fun! Singing is fun! Making music is fun! Learning is fun! Besides…“If singing were all that serious, frowning would make you sound better!”
Andrea S. Dawson, has lived in Spokane since 1992. She received both her Bachelors and Masters degrees in music from Eastern Washington University. She has been a member of the Spokane Symphony Chorale (1992-2005) and performs with the Bach Festival Chorus, Connoisseur Concerts, Cathedral and the Arts, Allegro Royal Fireworks Festival, and is also the soprano soloist at the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist. Andrea has worked with Spokane Children’s theatre both as music director and choreographer in addition to teaching ballet, tap and jazz at Spokane’s The Dance Center. She has performed with the Calgary Opera Chorus, the Calgary Stampede Grandstand Show, Expo 86, Spokane Civic Theatre, Lake City Playhouse, Coeur d‘Alene Summer Theatre, Spokane Symphony and Spokane-Coeur d’Alene Opera. Andrea is currently on the music faculty Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute, Holy Names Music Center, and North Idaho College.
